How's it look to you?

Dear Readers (yes, I mean all three of you),

I can't say I ever look at my blog on any computer but my own little laptop.  From here it looks fine, though I do occasionally use my "command +" to zoom in.

If you have a minute, would you please, please let me know how things look to you on your screen?

Lots of my older posts have been in a smaller font size. Too small? Is this size large enough? Is this better? Too big?

I also have taken to posting the smallest size files of my pictures, mostly to save time. Are they large enough? Should I get over my laziness and impatience and load the larger files?  If I do that, I'll probably put a small-ish watermark in one corner that just says "Stacie.Make.Do."  Do you watermark your photos? Why/why not?

Anything else you'd suggest? Like, "Hey, Stace, get off your bum and blog more often!"

Whoo Likes Owls?

Back in July, Jean from Quilted Cupcake shared a thrifted find: a silver owl trivet. Even though I came across her post a month later I couldn't resist leaving a comment because I happen to have the same owl hanging on my kitchen wall, along with his similar friend.

Jean mentioned plans to paint hers, but I suggested trying silver polish if she simply wanted him to look better.  Today I took my own advice and shined mine because they sorely needed it.

All I know about them I found doing a web search.  There are or were a few available on ebay and etsy.  The larger, more detailed one is Leonard Silverplate and from the '70s, the smaller one is Rogers zinc and I didn't find a year.

How many different manufacturers made a similar item? I came across only a few online. Maybe my thrifting luck will lead me to another one someday. After all, it's not a collection until you have at least three... right?

Crafting Along with Gene Kelly

If you're on Twitter, you know that unless you send someone a direct message (DM) almost no conversation is private. Um... yeah. That's the point of Twitter, isn't it? Half the fun is seeing what people are discussing, and the other half is chiming in.  Oh, yes! It's a Gene Kelly craft-along!  Announced today, August 23, on what would have been his 99th birthday. 

Here's a scene from an oft overlooked gem.  Gene Kelly and Van Johnson... what's not to love?  We had this record (yes, the vinyl kind) probably since before I was born, and so even before I knew it was him, I learned to love his voice.
