Celebrating a birthday. And I decided to buy gifts this time instead of wearing myself down trying to get a nightgown sewn and fairy wings made. (I found fairy wings at the Dollar Store. Seriously? I couldn't make them for that.) Then I also decided to support the local mom-and-pop toy store instead of saving a few bucks buying art supplies online. And guess what - the toy store does free gift wrap. And the owner was her usual friendly self, so I left feeling that I'd spent my money wisely.
I took a little extra time making cupcakes from scratch, but the birthday girl was so happy to help that it became one of her special activities for her day. As the treats cooled, I decided whipped cream would do for frosting which meant we then had time to go to the park to play. And because I decided to ask my husband for help, he stopped after work and picked up something I'd forgotten from my list: Flowers for the birthday girl.
All of these things worked out well. The park was fun, the cake was delish, the gifts were a hit, flowers from Daddy were a highlight, and everyone went to bed happy.
One funny thing that happened - I "lost" a couple of gifts. I knew I had purchased them a few weeks early, and hidden them in the house, but when I went to wrap them I couldn't find them! I looked in three of my usual gift-hiding places (twice!) before I remembered another spot where I'd tucked them away. I really had to laugh at myself over that one...
And in case you're wondering, yes, those are Peeps. Pink bunny Peeps, to be precise. I'm surprised after that present hunt I had earlier that I was smart enough to find these that I'd tucked away for a pink party. It's a bit frightening, but they were still squashy and lovely five months past their season. Must be related to Twinkies, eh?
